Some days have passed already since Mareike and i left Germany and our first impression about Brazil is just: Wow! We started our trip in Rio and its just an amazing and beautiful town! We started our first day (sunday) on the beach, which wasn't maybe the wisest decision. We were almost the only 'white' people walking on the beach and it felt strange that everybody looked at us. Furthermore,u it was extremely crowded; I have never seen so many people on a beach!
Anyway, we also got to know the beautiful characteristics/places of Rio. We walked up to the cristo de redentor (which took us 2 1/2 hours) from which we had an amazing view over the whole city. Furthermore, we went to the pao de azucar where we also enjoyed the sunset! As soon as we have the possibility to upload some pics, we will let you know. Then you can convince yourself that this place is just amazing!
After having been in Rio for 3 days, we went (a 6 hours trip to Sao Paulo and a further 11 hours to Florianopolis) to the Island Santa Catarina. Our purpose was to discover some untouched beaches before going upcountry. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't that fine till now, but we still got the opportunity to visit some beautiful places such as Praia de mole or the dunes at Praia de Joaquina!
Today, we are already leaving the coast of brazil and we are excited to visit the iguazu waterfalls, from both the Brazilian and argentinian side.
Ahh by the way... Mareike and I just learned that what we have learned during our culture classes is not always right! We- the Germans- were far more relaxed than our 6 southamerican acquaintances while inter alia walking up to the cristo! We just had one small break and we heard several times: Germany, we have to go further! We always thought that Europeans are stressed, but we discovered that our southamericans were even more 'stressed' ;)

Update: Today the weather is awesome :)!

Merle und ich haben nun schon ein paar Tage in Brasilien verbracht! Rio de Janeiro war der 1. stop, die Stadt hat so viele Facetten, das ist unglaublich! Hoehepunkt war der Ausblick von der Christus Statue und der Ausblick vom Zuckerhut, Sonnenuntergang mit inbegriffen :) Unser Hostel war nur 5 Minuten Fussweg von dem Strand Copacabana entfernt. Das war natuerlich auch das Erste, was wir am Sonntag gemacht hatten - ab zum Strand! Der einzige Nachteil bei dieser tollen Idee war allerdings, dass wir fast die einzigen ¨Weissen¨ am Strand waren und kein Zentimeter Plaz zum hinlegen war! Am Dienstag sah das aber schon ganz anders aus, weniger Leute und eine schoene Kulisse und gute Atmosphere.
Uebrigens, dieses Mal waren Merle und ich (die Deutschen) die Gelassensten. Auf dem Trip zur Christus Statue und Zuckerhut war kaum Zeit zum umgucken und es musste stets zuegig weiter gehen. Es hiess dann immer ¨Deutschland wir muessen weiter...¨ Wir sind naemlich mit 6 Suedamerikanern unterwegs gewesen! Aber es war super lustig und es hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt!!! Auf jeden Fall eine Reise wert!!
So, jetzt sind wir in Florianopolis, eine Art Insel, dort bleiben wir noch 2 Naechte und dann geht es ab zu den Igazu Wasserfaellen, bevor wir nach Paraguay aufbrechen!!
